Some singers are great, but few are so good they defy description. Soprano Leontyne Price – the embodiment of vocal strength, musical elegance and personal grace – is one of the few.

In the video above Price sings an encore – requested by President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Carter – at her 1978 White House recital.
